Beauty and
sun protection go together for a fabulous appearance. The sun can be your friend when enjoying the outdoors. When you go out unprotected, sun exposure is often the worst possible thing for your skin. Here are some tips for sun-kissed, beautiful skin while avoiding premature aging, wrinkles and fine lines. Stay indoors when the sun does the most damage, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you must go out, use protection – a hat, long sleeves, and other clothing that shades your skin. Dark, tightly woven fabrics absorb ultraviolet rays better than light ones. Invest in fun hats with at least a two-inch brim that will protect your skin and give you a kick to wear! And don’t forget sunglasses – your eyes can be severely damaged by UV rays and the wrinkles that develop from squinting too much.
If It's Daylight, Use Sun Protection to Avoid Aging and Wrinkles
Use a good sunscreen. The UV rays of the sun are the ones that cause the most damage – sunburn, aging, wrinkles and even skin cancer. Apply sunscreen about 15 to 30 minutes before you go outside and use it every day, including cloudy, rainy and cold days. A good rule of thumb regarding
sun protection - if it’s daylight, use sunscreen with
organic skin care. UVA rays come through car windows too, so even if you are going to be in the car, use sunscreen. When using sunscreen, remember the tops of your ears, the “v line” of your blouse, your nose, the tops of your feet and your hands. The Skin Cancer Foundation says that 80 percent of skin cancers occur on the head, neck and hands. UV rays, even those in tanning beds, penetrate the skin more deeply, and over time, make the skin dry and wrinkled and increase the chances of skin cancer. It is especially a bad idea for people with fair skin. They burn worse than those with darker complexion and generally have difficulty getting a tan. If you simply can’t resist sunbathing, go slow and let your skin build up melanin to provide some additional protection. Don’t use tanning oils – they increase the effect of UV rays and make a burn more likely. Slathering yourself with cooking oil will achieve the same effect!
